Gift Annuities A way to give - and keep on receiving

A gift annuity through Anabaptist Foundation is a great way to help your favorite charities while securing your future. It.s a gift that provides you with guaranteed payments for life and frees you from managing funds that you intend to eventually give away.

How it works

You give a gift to Anabaptist Foundation designated to the charities of your choice. In return, we give you guaranteed annuity payments at a fixed rate for the rest of your life. All you need to do is fill out a simple form and write a check - we take care of the rest. We also can accept marketable securities (stocks, bonds, etc.) that we will turn into cash for you. The minimum contribution is $5,000, but your gift can be as large as you like and you can divide it among as many charities as you please. You may also change your charity designations at any time.

In addition, you get substantial tax savings. Most people can deduct a significant portion of their gift right away. Plus, part of the annuity payments you receive may be tax free.

Of course, you also get the satisfaction of knowing your favorite charities will benefit from your generosity. Please keep in mind that your gift is non-refundable.

Anabaptist Foundation gift annuities are offered in conjunction with our partners at Mennonite Foundation.

Advantages for donors

  • Flexibility - You can give either cash or marketable securities (stocks, bonds, etc.). You can receive payments quarterly, semiannually, or annually.
  • Freedom - The foundation takes responsibility to liquidate non-cash assets and to manage gift proceeds.
  • Capital gains tax - When appreciated securities are donated, the donor pays tax on part of the capital gains. This leaves more money to go to charity.
  • Immediate tax deduction - In the year the gift is made, you get a federal income tax deduction for the present value of the gift interest in the property, up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income, if funded with securities held long term. Any deduction you qualify for above these limits may be carried forward for up to five successive years.
  • Tax contribution receipt - Anabaptist Foundation will issue contribution receipts to donors for tax purposes.
  • Privacy - If the donor wishes to give anonymously, the foundation can act as a screen between the donor and recipient charities.
  • Accounting information - We will send you a tax form each year for the reporting of your annuity payments for income tax purposes.
  • What you will earn

In return for your gift, you receive guaranteed annuity payments for life. You can begin receiving these payments immediately or defer them until a later time. If you are still working, you may wish to defer receiving payments until after you retire.

You can choose whether you would like to receive the payments yourself or jointly with a spouse - or you can designate someone else as the recipient. The payments can be sent to you quarterly, semiannually, or annually.

The fixed annuity rate you will receive is indicated on the chart below. It is determined by your age when you choose to begin receiving payments.
